OBJECTIVE: To investigate the trajectories and potential categories of changes in the sense of coherence (SOC) in patients after colorectal cancer surgery and to analyze predictive factors. METHODS: From January to July 2023, 175 patients with colorectal cancer treated at a tertiary Grade A oncology hospital in Jiangsu Province were selected as the study subjects. Prior to surgery, SOC-13 scale, Patient-Generated Subjective Global Assessment (PG-SGA), Brief Illness Perception Questionnaire (BIPQ), and Social Support Rating Scale (SSRS) were used to survey the patients. SOC levels were measured multiple times at 1 week, 1 month, and 3 months post-surgery. Growth Mixture Modeling (GMM) was applied to fit the trajectory changes of SOC in patients after colorectal cancer surgery. Multinomial logistic regression was used to analyze the predictive factors of SOC trajectory changes. RESULTS: The SOC scores of patients at points T1-T4 were (65.27 ± 9.20), (63.65 ± 10.41), (63.85 ± 11.84), and (61.56 ± 12.65), respectively. Multinomial logistic regression results indicated that gender, employment status, disease stage, household monthly income, intestinal stoma, nutritional status, illness perception, and social support were predictors of SOC trajectory changes (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: There is heterogeneity in the trajectory changes of SOC in patients after colorectal cancer surgery. Healthcare professionals should implement early precision interventions based on the patterns of changes and predictive factors in each trajectory category.

Acanthopanax senticosus polysaccharide-nano-selenium (ASPS-SENPS) and A. selenopanax selenized polysaccharides (Se-ASPS) were synthesized, and their characterization and biological properties were compared. The acid extraction method was used to extract the polysaccharides of A. selenopanax, followed by decolorization using the hydrogen peroxide method and deproteinization based on the Sevage method, and the purification of A. senticosus polysaccharides (ASPS) was carried out using the cellulose DEAE-52 ion column layer analysis method. An A. senticosus polysaccharide-nano-selenium complex was synthesized by a chemical reduction method using ASPS as dispersants. The selenization of polysaccharides from A. selenopanax was carried out using the HNO3-Na2SeO3 method. The chemical compositions, scanning electron microscopy images, infrared spectra, and antioxidant properties of ASPS-SENPS and Se-ASPS were studied, and they were also subjected to thermogravimetric analysis. The results indicated that the optimal conditions for the synthesis of ASPS-SENPS include the following: when ASPS accounts for 10%, the ratio of ascorbic acid and sodium selenium should be 4:1, the response time should be 4 h, and the reaction temperature should be 50 °C. The most favorable conditions for the synthesis of Se-ASPS were as follows: m (Na2SeO3):m (ASPS) = 4:5, response temperature = 50 °C, and response time = 11.0 h. In the in vitro antioxidant assay, when the mass concentration of Se-ASPS and ASPS-SENPS was 5 mg/mL, the removal rates for DPPH free radicals were 88.44 ± 2.83% and 98.89 ± 3.57%, respectively, and the removal rates for ABTS free radicals were 90.11 ± 3.43% and 98.99 ± 1.73%, respectively, stronger than those for ASPS. The current study compares the physiological and bioactivity effects of ASPS-SENPS and Se-ASPS, providing a basis for future studies on polysaccharides.

OBJECTIVE: The preoperative identification of tumor grade in chondrosarcoma (CS) is crucial for devising effective treatment strategies and predicting outcomes. The study aims to build and validate a CT-based radiomics nomogram (RN) for the preoperative identification of tumor grade in CS, and to evaluate the correlation between the RN-predicted tumor grade and postoperative outcome. METHODS: A total of 196 patients (139 in the training cohort and 57 in the external validation cohort) were derived from three different centers. A clinical model, radiomics signature (RS) and RN (which combines significant clinical factors and RS) were developed and validated to assess their ability to distinguish low-grade from high-grade CS with area under the curve (AUC). Additionally, Kaplan-Meier survival analysis was applied to examine the association between RN-predicted tumor grade and recurrence-free survival (RFS) of CS. The predictive accuracy of the RN was evaluated using Harrell's concordance index (C-index), hazard ratio (HR) and AUC. RESULTS: Size, endosteal scalloping and active periostitis were selected to build the clinical model. Three radiomics features, based on CT images, were selected to construct the RS. Both the RN (AUC, 0.842) and RS (AUC, 0.835) were superior to the clinical model (AUC, 0.776) in the validation set (P = 0.003, 0.040, respectively). A correlation between Nomogram score (Nomo-score, derived from RN) and RFS was observed through Kaplan-Meier survival analysis in the training and test cohorts (log-rank P < 0.050). Patients with high Nomo-score tumors were 2.669 times more likely to suffer recurrence than those with low Nomo-score tumors (HR, 2.669, P < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: The CT-based RN performed well in predicting both the histologic grade and outcome of CS.

Vibrio is a salt-tolerant heterotrophic bacterium that occupies an important ecological niche in marine environments. However, little is known about the contribution of resource diversity to the marine Vibrio diversity and community stability. In this study, we investigated the association among resource diversity, taxonomic diversity, phylogenetic diversity, and community stability of marine Vibrio in the Beibu Gulf. V. campbellii and V. hangzhouensis were the dominant groups in seawater and sediments, respectively, in the Beibu Gulf. Higher alpha diversity was observed in the sediments than in the seawater. Marine Vibrio community assembly was dominated by deterministic processes. Pearson's correlation analysis showed that nitrite (NO2--N), dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN), ammonium (NH4+-N), and pH were the main factors affecting marine Vibrio community stability in the surface, middle, and bottom layers of seawater and sediment, respectively. Partial least-squares path models (PLS-PM) demonstrated that resource diversity, water properties, nutrients, and geographical distance had important impacts on phylogenetic and taxonomic diversity. Regression analysis revealed that the impact of resource diversity on marine Vibrio diversity and community stability varied across different habitats, but loss of Vibrio diversity increases community stability. Overall, this study provided insights into the mechanisms underlying the maintenance of Vibrio diversity and community stability in marine environments.

BACKGROUND: The occurrence of massive retroperitoneal hematoma caused by intercostal artery bleeding is exceedingly uncommon. CASE PRESENTATION: A middle-aged male presented to the hospital after a fall. Computed tomography scan revealed a massive retroperitoneal hematoma without any evidence of organ or major vessel rupture. The angiogram revealed extravasation from a branch of the twelfth intercostal artery, and successful transcatheter arterial embolization was performed on this specific artery. CONCLUSIONS: The possibility of intercostal artery rupture should be considered in cases of retroperitoneal hematomas, and accurate diagnosis can be achieved through imaging studies. Transcatheter arterial embolization represents an effective treatment modality.

The increasing demand for individualized health monitoring and diagnostics has prompted considerable research into the integration of portable optical fiber biosensors integrated with smartphones. By capitalizing on the benefits offered by optical fibers, these biosensors enable qualitative and quantitative biosensing across a wide range of applications. The integration of these sensors with smartphones, which possess advanced computational power and versatile sensing capabilities, addresses the increasing need for portable and rapid sensing solutions. This extensive evaluation thoroughly examines the domain of optical fiber biosensors in conjunction with smartphones, including hardware complexities, sensing approaches, and integration methods. Additionally, it explores a wide range of applications, including physiological and chemical biosensing. Furthermore, the review provides an analysis of the challenges that have been identified in this rapidly evolving area of research and concludes with relevant suggestions for the progression of the field.

OBJECTIVES: In this study, we aimed to investigate the regulatory mechanism of transcranial ultrasound stimulation (TUS) on nitroglycerin-induced migraine in mice. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The experiment was divided into four groups, namely, the normal saline control group (n = 9), ultrasound stimulation control group (n = 6), nitroglycerin-induced migraine group (n = 9), and ultrasound stimulation group (n = 9). The behavior, blood oxygen metabolism, and brain rhythm distribution of the four groups were analyzed. RESULTS: We found that after TUS, the movement time and speed of mice with migraine are modulated to those of the control groups, and the number of head scratching and grooming events is significantly reduced. TUS increased the deoxygenated hemoglobin, and the power of the 4-to-40 Hz frequency band of local field potentials in the cortex of migraine mice. TUS also decreased the expression of plasma calcitonin gene-related peptide and cortical c-Fos protein. CONCLUSIONS: Ultrasound stimulation can regulate brain rhythm and blood oxygen metabolism and reduce migraine symptoms in mice. The regulatory mechanism may be related to reducing calcitonin gene-related peptide in blood vessels.

OBJECTIVE: Low-frequency oscillations (LFOs) observed in the periphery may reflect physiological processes. The aim of this study was to investigate these processes' effects on LFOs and the differences between healthy subjects and those with peripheral arteriosclerosis disease (PAD). METHODS: 14 PAD patients and 25 healthy controls were studied in resting (RS) and passive leg raising (PLR) states. We simultaneously measured LFOs at the peripheral left earlobes (LE), right earlobes (RE), left fingertips (LF), right fingertips (RF), left toes (LT), and right toes (RT), along with coherence and phase shift analysis processing. RESULTS: The coherence coefficients in the PAD group were lower than those in the healthy group (p < .01), and the phase shifts in the PAD group were higher than those in the healthy group (p < .01) in a resting state. Mild to moderate PAD patients had greater coherence coefficients and smaller phase shifts than severe PAD patients. 0.05 Hz PLR LFOs originating in the LT can be observed in other peripheral positions. The proportion of occurrence times for 0.05 Hz PLR LFOs peaks observed at different peripheral positions was different in healthy subjects, patients with bilateral multiple lower limb arteriosclerosis, and those with left or right lower limb arteriosclerosis. CONCLUSION: The coherence coefficient and phase shift characteristics of LFOs were different between healthy subjects and PAD patients. LFOs have the potential to provide valuable physiological process information associated with atherosclerosis in the periphery.

Traditional methods of treating lung cancer have not been very effective, contributing to the disease's high incidence and death rate. As a result, Fn/Tn-PLGA NPs, a novel directed fucoidan and trabectedin complex loaded PLGA nanoparticle, were produced to investigate the role of developing therapeutic strategies for NSCLC and A549 cell lines. Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction was used to examine protein expression and mRNA expression, respectively. Protein activity was knocked down using specific inhibitors and short disrupting RNA transfection. Lastly, cancer cell lines H1299 and A549 were subjected to an in vitro cytotoxicity experiment. Commercial assays were used to assess the levels of cell viability, ROS and proliferation found that Fn/Tn-PLGA NPs effectively killed lung cancer cells. To examine cell death, annexin flow cytometry was employed. In addition, a scratch-wound assay was conducted to assess the migration effects of Fn/Tn-PLGA NPs in a laboratory setting. Finally, PLGA NPs covered with a mix of fucoidan and trabectedin could be a good vehicle for targeting cancerous tissues with chemotherapeutic drugs.

Efficient flotation beneficiation heavily relies on accurate flotation condition recognition based on monitored froth video. However, the recognition accuracy is hindered by limitations of extracting temporal features from froth videos and establishing correlations between complex multi-modal high-order data. To address the difficulties of inadequate temporal feature extraction, inaccurate online condition detection, and inefficient flotation process operation, this paper proposes a novel flotation condition recognition method named the multi-modal temporal hypergraph neural network (MTHGNN) to extract and fuse multi-modal temporal features. To extract abundant dynamic texture features from froth images, the MTHGNN employs an enhanced version of the local binary pattern algorithm from three orthogonal planes (LBP-TOP) and incorporates additional features from the three-dimensional space as supplements. Furthermore, a novel multi-view temporal feature aggregation network (MVResNet) is introduced to extract temporal aggregation features from the froth image sequence. By constructing a temporal multi-modal hypergraph neural network, we encode complex high-order temporal features, establish robust associations between data structures, and flexibly model the features of froth image sequence, thus enabling accurate flotation condition identification through the fusion of multi-modal temporal features. The experimental results validate the effectiveness of the proposed method for flotation condition recognition, providing a foundation for optimizing flotation operations.

BACKGROUND: Diabetic sarcopenia is a disease-related skeletal muscle disorder that causes progressive symptoms. The complete understanding of its pathogenesis is yet to be unravelled, which makes it difficult to develop effective therapeutic strategies. This study investigates how MFG-E8 affects mitophagy and the protective role of D-pinitol (DP) in diabetic sarcopenia. METHODS: In vivo, streptozotocin-induced diabetic SAM-R1 (STZ-R1) and SAM-P8 (STZ-P8) mice (16-week-old) were used, and STZ-P8 mice were administrated of DP (150 mg/kg per day) for 6 weeks. Gastrocnemius muscles were harvested for histological analysis including transmission electron microscopy. Proteins were evaluated via immunohistochemistry (IHC), immunofluorescence (IF), and western blotting (WB) assay. In vitro, advanced glycation end products (AGEs) induced diabetic and D-galactose (DG) induced senescent C2C12 models were established and received DP, MFG-E8 plasmid (Mover)/siRNA (MsiRNA), or 3-MA/Torin-1 intervention. Proteins were evaluated by IF and WB assay. Immunoprecipitation (IP) and co-immunoprecipitation (CO-IP) were used for hunting the interacted proteins of MFG-E8. RESULTS: In vivo, sarcopenia, mitophagy deficiency, and up-regulated MFG-E8 were confirmed in the STZ-P8 group. DP exerted protective effects on sarcopenia and mitophagy (DP + STZ-P8 vs. STZ-P8; all P < 0.01), such as increased lean mass (8.47 ± 0.81 g vs. 7.08 ± 1.64 g), grip strength (208.62 ± 39.45 g vs. 160.87 ± 26.95 g), rotarod tests (109.7 ± 11.81 s vs. 59.3 ± 20.97 s), muscle cross-sectional area (CSA) (1912.17 ± 535.61 µm2 vs. 1557.19 ± 588.38 µm2), autophagosomes (0.07 ± 0.02 per µm2 vs. 0.02 ± 0.01 per µm2), and cytolysosome (0.07 ± 0.03 per µm2 vs. 0.03 ± 0.01 per µm2). DP down-regulated MFG-E8 in both serum (DP + STZ-P8: 253.19 ± 34.75 pg/mL vs. STZ-P8: 404.69 ± 78.97 pg/mL; P < 0.001) and gastrocnemius muscle (WB assay. DP + STZ-P8: 0.39 ± 0.04 vs. STZ-P8: 0.55 ± 0.08; P < 0.01). DP also up-regulated PINK1, Parkin and LC3B-II/I ratio, and down-regulated P62 in gastrocnemius muscles (all P < 0.01). In vitro, mitophagy deficiency and MFG-E8 up-regulation were confirmed in diabetic and senescent models (all P < 0.05). DP and MsiRNA down-regulated MFG-E8 and P62, and up-regulated PINK1, Parkin and LC3B-II/I ratio to promote mitophagy as Torin-1 does (all P < 0.05). HSPA1L was confirmed as an interacted protein of MFG-E8 in IP and CO-IP assay. Mover down-regulated the expression of Parkin via the HSPA1L-Parkin pathway, leading to mitophagy inhibition. MsiRNA up-regulated the expression of PINK1 via SGK1, FOXO1, and STAT3 phosphorylation pathways, leading to mitophagy stimulation. CONCLUSIONS: MFG-E8 is a crucial target protein of DP and plays a distinct role in mitophagy regulation. DP down-regulates the expression of MFG-E8, reduces mitophagy deficiency, and alleviates the symptoms of diabetic sarcopenia, which could be considered a novel therapeutic strategy for diabetic sarcopenia.

OBJECTIVE: Differences in neural states at the time of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) can lead to variations in the effectiveness of TMS stimulation. Strategies that aim to lock neural activity states and improve the precision of stimulation timing in TMS optimization should gradually receive attention. One feasible approach is to utilize microstate locking for TMS stimulation, and understanding the impact of microstates at the time of stimulation on TMS response forms the foundation of this approach. APPROACH: TMS-EEG data were extracted from 21 healthy subjects through experiments. Based on the different microstates at the time of stimulation, the trials were classified into four datasets. TMS-evoked potential (TEP), topographical distribution, and natural frequency, were computed for each dataset to explore the differences in TMS-EEG characteristics across different microstates. MAIN RESULTS: The N100 component of microstate C group (-2.376 µV) was significantly higher (p = 0.003) than of microstate D group (-1.739 µV), and the P180 component of microstate D group (2.482 µV) was significantly higher (p = 0.024) than of microstate B group (1.766 µV) and slightly higher (p = 0.058) than of microstate C group (1.863 µV) by calculating the ROI. The topographical distribution of TEP components during microstate C and microstate D still retained the template characteristics of the microstate at the time of stimulation, and the natural frequencies did not differ among the four classical microstates. SIGNIFICANCE: This study showed the potential for future closed-loop TMS based on microstates and would guiding the development of microstate-based closed-loop TMS techniques.

BACKGROUND: Imported cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) is a growing problem with increasing global travel to endemic areas. Returned travelers with CL are easy to be misdiagnosed and mistreated due to the lack of awareness for the disease to the physicians in non-endemic region that may lead to unfavorable outcome. Our study intends to summarize the characteristics of Leishmania infection imported from Iraq, so as to help Chinese physicians diagnose and treat the disease. All CL patients were treated with intralesional injection of antimony. METHODS: The definitive diagnosis of CL is based on the parasite identification by microscopic examination directly on lesion smear or parasite culture, PCR amplification of Leishmania-specific internal transcribed spacer 1 (ITS-1). The phylogenetic analysis, the immunopathological examination and the cytokine detection were proceeded after the diagnosis. RESULTS: We have identified 25 CL cases in migrant Chinese workers returned from Iraq for the first time with L. major as the major species of infected Leishmania parasite. Clinical features of the Iraq-imported CL include the history of skin exposure to sandflies bite and the lesions mostly on the exposed limbs. More ulcerative wet lesion was observed than nodular dry lesion. PCR is not only used to detect Leishmania parasite with high sensitivity, but also to identify the species of infected parasite through sequencing the amplified Leishmania-specific ITS-1 gene. The phylogenetic analysis based on the amplified ITS-1 sequences revealed that the infected Leishmania was closed related to the species and strains endemic in Iraq. The immunopathological examination revealed the T-cell filtrated cellular immune response with less B cells and NK cells involved. The cytokine profile measured in the skin lesion also confirmed the Th1 cellular response with higher expression levels of IFN-γ, IL-6 and IL-8. The skin lesions in CL patients were healed after being treated locally with antimony. CONCLUSIONS: The clinical and parasitological features of these Chinese CL cases imported from Iraq provide useful information for the diagnosis and treatment of CL that is not commonly seen in Chinese local population.

This study comprehensively deciphered the effect of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) on anammox flocculent sludge, including nitrogen removal performance, microbial community structure, functional enzyme abundance, antibiotic resistance gene (ARGs) dissemination, and horizontal gene transfer (HGT) mechanisms. After long-term exposure to 0-2.5 mg/L AgNPs for 200 cycles, anammox performance significantly decreased (P < 0.05), while the relative abundances of dominant Ca. Kuenenia and anammox-related enzymes (hzsA, nirK) increased compared to the control (P < 0.05). For antibiotic resistome, ARG abundance hardly changed with 0-0.5 mg/L AgNPs but decreased by approximately 90% with 1.5-2.5 mg/L AgNPs. More importantly, AgNPs effectively inhibited MGE-mediated HGT of ARGs. Additionally, structural equation model (SEM) disclosed the underlying relationship between AgNPs, the antibiotic resistome, and the microbial community. Overall, AgNPs suppressed the anammox-driven nitrogen cycle, regulated the microbial community, and prevented the spread of ARGs in anammox flocs. This study provides a theoretical baseline for an advanced understanding of the ecological roles of nanoparticles and resistance elements in engineered ecosystems.

Here, we show simultaneous multimodal data that reveal the similar temporal and spatial features of attention processes during vWM. These similarities lead to common NVC outcomes across individuals. When filtering out distractors, the electroencephalography (EEG)-informed NVC displayed broader engagement across the frontoparietal network. A negative correlation may exist between behavioral metrics and EEG-informed NVC strength related to attention control. On a dynamic basis, NVC features exhibited higher discriminatory power in predicting behavior than other features alone. These results underscore how multimodal approaches can advance our understanding of the role of attention in vWM, and how NVC fluctuations are associated with actual behavior.

BACKGROUND: Mathematical modeling and computer simulation are important methods for understanding complex neural systems. The whole-brain network model can help people understand the neurophysiological mechanisms of brain cognition and functional diseases of the brain. METHODS: In this study, we constructed a resting-state whole-brain network model (WBNM) by using the Wendling neural mass model as the node and a real structural connectivity matrix as the edge of the network. By analyzing the correlation between the simulated functional connectivity matrix in the resting state and the empirical functional connectivity matrix, an optimal global coupling coefficient was obtained. Then, the waveforms and spectra of simulated EEG signals and four commonly used measures from graph theory and small-world network properties of simulated brain networks under different thresholds were analyzed. RESULTS: The results showed that the correlation coefficient of the functional connectivity matrix of the simulated WBNM and empirical brain networks could reach a maximum value of 0.676 when the global coupling coefficient was set to 20.3. The simulated EEG signals showed rich waveform and frequency-band characteristics. The commonly used graph-theoretical measures and small-world properties of the constructed WBNM were similar to those of empirical brain networks. When the threshold was set to 0.22, the maximum correlation between the simulated WBNM and empirical brain networks was 0.709. CONCLUSIONS: The constructed resting-state WBNM is similar to a real brain network to a certain extent and can be used to study the neurophysiological mechanisms of complex brain networks.

Terahertz radiation falls within the spectrum of hydrogen bonding, molecular rotation, and vibration, as well as van der Waals forces, indicating that many biological macromolecules exhibit a strong absorption and resonance in this frequency band. Research has shown that the terahertz radiation of specific frequencies and energies can mediate changes in cellular morphology and function by exciting nonlinear resonance effects in proteins. However, current studies have mainly focused on the cellular level and lack systematic studies on multiple levels. Moreover, the mechanism and law of interaction between terahertz radiation and neurons are still unclear. Therefore, this paper analyzes the mechanisms by which terahertz radiation modulates the nervous system, and it analyzes and discusses the methods by which terahertz radiation modulates neurons. In addition, this paper reviews the laws of terahertz radiation's influence on neuronal morphology and kinetic properties and discusses them in detail in terms of terahertz radiation frequency, energy, and time. In the future, the safety of the terahertz radiation system should be considered first to construct the safety criterion of terahertz modulation, and the spatial resolution of the terahertz radiation system should be improved. In addition, the systematic improvement of the laws and mechanisms of terahertz modulation of the nervous system on multiple levels is the key to applying terahertz waves to neuroscience. This paper can provide a platform for researchers to understand the mechanism of the terahertz-nervous system interaction, its current status, and future research directions.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the differences in the metabolic indicators and sex hormones between obese and non-obese patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), and their impacts on endometrial receptivity (ER). METHODS: We selected 255 individuals with PCOS, and categorized them into the obese groups, including the OP group (obese patients with PCOS) and the ON group (obese patients without PCOS), and selected 64 individuals who were categorized in the non-obese groups, namely, the control groups, which comprise the NP group (non-obese patients with PCOS) and the NN group(non-obese patients without PCOS). The one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Mann-Whitney U tests were used to compare the metabolic indicators, and sex hormone-associated and ER-associated indicators between the groups. The correlation between the aforementioned clinical markers and ER was analyzed using the Pearson's correlation coefficient. RESULTS: (1) In comparison with the NP group, the OP group exhibited higher levels (p < .01) of free androgen index (FAI), anti-müllerian hormone (AMH), fasting insulin (FINS), insulin level within 60 min, 120 min, and 180 min-60minINS, 120minINS, and 180minINS, respectively, fasting blood glucose (FBG), blood glucose level within two hours (2hGlu), homeostatic model assessment for insulin resistance (HOMA-IR), triglyceride (TG), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), waist-to-hip ratio (WHR), waist circumference, hip circumference, the ratio of the maximum blood flow velocity of the uterine artery during systole to the blood flow velocity of the uterine artery at the end of diastole (uterine artery S/D), and blood flow resistance index (RI) of the uterine artery. In comparison with the NP group, the OP group exhibited lower levels (p < .01) of sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG), dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), high molecular weight adiponectin (HMWA), and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C). (2) In the PCOS group, RI was significantly positively correlated with FAI, FINS, 120minINS, HOMA-IR, and WHR (p < .01), and significantly negatively correlated with SHBG, HDL-C, and HMWA (p < .01); uterine artery S/D was significantly positively correlated with FAI, FINS, 2hGlu, HOMA-IR, LDL-C, and WHR (p < .01), significantly positively correlated with 120minINS and FBG (p < .05), and significantly negatively correlated with SHBG and HMWA (p < .01). CONCLUSION: (1) The OP group exhibited obvious metabolic disorders and poor ER, which was manifested as low levels of SHBG and HMWA, and high levels of FAI, HOMA-IR, WHR, uterine artery S/D, and RI. (2) In patients with PCOS, there was a substantial correlation between ER-associated indicators RI and uterine artery S/D and FAI, FINS, 120minINS, HOMA-IR, WHR, SHBG, and HMWA.

BACKGROUND: Theta burst TUS (tbTUS) can induce increased cortical excitability in human, but how different sonication parameters influence the effects are still unknown. OBJECTIVE: To examine how a range of sonication parameters, including acoustic intensity, pulse repetition frequency, duty cycle and sonication duration, influence the effects of tbTUS on human motor cortical excitability. METHODS: 14 right-handed healthy subjects underwent 8 sessions with different tbTUS parameters in a randomized, cross-over design on separate days. The original tbTUS protocol was studied in one session and one parameter was changed in each of the seven sessions. To examine changes in cortical excitability induced by tbTUS, we measured the motor-evoked potential (MEP) amplitude, resting motor threshold, short-interval intracortical inhibition and intracortical facilitation, as well as short-interval intracortical facilitation before and up to 90 min after tbTUS. RESULTS: All conditions increased MEP amplitudes except the condition with low acoustic intensity of 10 W/cm2. Pulse repetition frequency of 5 Hz produced higher MEP amplitudes compared to pulse repetition frequencies of 2 and 10 Hz. In addition, higher duty cycles (5%, 10%, and 15%) and longer sonication durations (40, 80, and 120 s) were associated with longer duration of increased MEP amplitudes. Resting motor threshold remained stable in all conditions. For paired-pulse TMS measures, tbTUS reduced short-interval intracortical inhibition and enhanced short-interval intracortical facilitation, but had no effect on intracortical facilitation. CONCLUSIONS: Ultrasound bursts repeated at theta (∼5 Hz) frequency is optimal to produce increased cortical excitability with the range of 2-10 Hz. Furthermore, there was a dose-response effect regarding duty cycle and sonication duration in tbTUS for plasticity induction. The aftereffects of tbTUS were associated with a shift of the inhibition/excitation balance toward less inhibition and more excitation in the motor cortex. These findings can be used to determine the optimal tbTUS parameters in neuroscience research and treatment of neurological and psychiatric disorders.

A green extraction method was developed using deep eutectic solvent extraction for the polysaccharide from Acanthopanax senticosus (A. senticosus). Among the eight types of DES prepared, the DES with a ratio of 1:4 L-malic acid to L-proline was found to be a suitable extraction solvent based on the extraction efficiency. The extraction parameters were optimized by Plackett-Burman and response surface methodology (RSM). The best extraction conditions were found for L-malic acid. Under the conditions of an L-malic acid/L-proline ratio of 1:4, ultrasonic power of 240 W, material-liquid ratio of 31.068 g/mL, water content of 32.364%, extraction time of 129.119 min, and extraction temperature of 60 °C, the extraction rate of A. senticosus polysaccharides was 35.452 ± 0.388 mg-g-1. This rate was higher than that of polysaccharides obtained by hot water extraction (13.652 ± 0.09 mg-g-1). The experimental results were best fitted by the quasi-secondary kinetic model when compared to two other kinetic models. Electron microscopic observations showed that DESs were more destructive to plant cells. The polysaccharide extracted from DESs had more monosaccharide components, a lower molecular weight, a higher antioxidant capacity, and superior anti-glycation activity compared to polysaccharides extracted from water (ASPS-PW). This study demonstrates the effectiveness of DESs in obtaining polysaccharides from A. senticosus.
